Mike McGinty has taken out the global Patron Perfectionists Cocktail Competition.
Mike, the owner and operator of cocktail bar and restaurant ‘The Voyage of Buck’ in the United Kingdom, rose above 600 bartenders from across the globe that battled it out.
Contestants were challenged to make a cocktail with the same values as the brand; that being of passion, precision and care.
Having won the UK finals in London, Mike travelled to Hacienda Patron in Mexico, where he and the other global finalists were asked to remake their winning cocktails in front of an expert panel of judges.
The panel was made up of Lee Applbaum, Patrons Chief Marketing Officer; David Rodriguez, Patron Hacienda’s Production Director; Stephen Halpin, Trade Education and Mixology Manager at Patron; and Sandrae Lawrence, Editor of the Cocktail Loves magazine.
All in all, it was a tough competition, with great bartenders from the likes of Fernando Fastuca (Liquid Club, Barcelona) to Nick Cozens (Eau De Vie, Melbourne) giving it all they had.
However, Mike came out on top with his winning cocktail, The Bell of Jalisco – a combination of Patron Reposado tequila, chamomile infused dry vermouth, grapefruit IPA, lemon juice and yellow bell pepper shrub.
Speaking about his cocktail, Mike said, “I really wanted to create a serve dedicated to the men and women that are involved in the creation of this ultra-premium tequila.”
And that’s exactly what he did, with the name of his cocktail paying homage to his belief that Patron is the belle of Jalisco.
