It’s Time Again for Asia’s Premier Gin Celebration

Asia’s leGINdary festival of all things gin, East Imperial Gin Jubilee, is back for its sixth year.

The multi-day celebration brings together the best gin brands, bartenders and bars for events, masterclasses and the exclusive Gin Lane outdoor party, where participating bars show off their signature gin cocktails.

Last year’s festival saw five cities and 137 bars take part, including some 18 venues from Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. This year, the events in Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore will correspond with celebrations in Shenzen and Beijing.

As in previous years, the Gin Lane is set to be the pièce de résistance of the festival, with the Singapore party hoping to top its record 5,500 G&Ts served in a single night last year. Alongside the big players, guests will be able to get their hands on a number of lesser-known gin brands, such as Dunnet Bay Distillers’ Rock Rose Gin and Peddlers Shanghai Graft Gin, made in Shanghai’s first distillery.

Keeping with the industry focus on sustainable practice, the Gin Lane will be a zero waste affair. The festival is partnering with local company TRIA to use compostable cups that will be broken down into fertiliser after the events.

Coinciding with the announcement of Gin Jubilee comes the appointment of East Imperial’s first brand ambassador for Asia. Jamie He, former bar manager at Beijing’s renowned Janes + Hooch, will begin her work as a brand educator and spokesperson for the region by travelling to most of this year’s Gin Jubilee cities to engage in masterclasses and guest shifts.

It wouldn’t be a true gin celebration without the ultimate showdown for the best G&T. In each participating city, bartenders have the opportunity to face off and flaunt their best Gin & Tonic recipes using East Imperial’s premium mixers. The winners of each regional round are decided via social media votes and the scores of a panel of experts. The six winners will then travel to Gin Jubilee’s final week in Singapore to compete for the title of Asia’s Best Gin & Tonic.
