Kensington Street Welcomes Handpicked Wines

Sydney’s vibrant Kensington Street has welcomed Handpicked Wine’s Cellar Door, holding its official launch party last Tuesday November 15. The urban winery showcases its own “hand-picked” selection of Australian and international wines, across all regions and varietals.

Handpicked Wines winemaker, Peter Dillon, said, “We are excited to be bringing a diverse range of vineyards and wineries into a space which is more than just bricks and a mortar cellar door but a chance to bring premium wines from around the globe, together under the one roof.”

Located in an exposed-brick warehouse, Handpicked will look to offer an urban approach to the traditional cellar door experience.

Guests arrived to find a confetti-filled street featuring the brass marching band, Blue Tongue Brass Band, parading toward the Cellar Door, as lead by ringmaster Robyn Wilson.

Once inside, guests were treated to a glass of Handpicked NV Prosecco and invited to travel the world through its six tasting stations, showcasing 18 of the best wines from Handpicked’s 60-wine portfolio.

With the aim of educating as well as entertaining its guests, Handpicked’s modern twists to the cellar door experience include interactive iPads and 30-minute tutored tastings for those wanting to gain a more in-depth knowledge of wine.

Kensington Street itself hosts a lively array of cafes, bars and restaurants. Handpicked allows visitors to the area an opportunity to take away their favourite wines, to be enjoyed at the nearby eateries.

For those looking to book private functions, the Experience Room can seat up to 20 people, with tastings presented by sommeliers, wine educators and guest hosts alike.

The pedigreed team of Handpicked winemakers also have their latest projects showcased, with visitors invited to taste several unfinished wines straight from the tank, as well as order small batch wines on tap.

As many as 30 Handpicked wines will also be available for order at any one time, by the glass or the bottle. Handpicked Wine-lovers can also jump online and have their wine delivered anywhere in the Sydney metropolitan area, within just three hours.

The Handpicked Cellar Door is located at 50 Kensington Street Chippendale, open Monday to Friday from 11.00am to 10.00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am to 10.00pm.
