The fourth annual East Imperial Gin Jubilee culminated with the Grand Finale Singapore, featuring a weeklong celebration of gin-related activities including masterclasses, tastings, gin rambles and the Gin Lane party closing out proceedings.
After kicking off this year in Kuala Lumpur in August, the event headed to Hong Kong in September, and Phnom Penh in October, before taking to Singapore for the Grand Finale. The 2016 Gin Jubilee saw 92 bars from the region compete to be crowned their city’s ‘Best Gin & Tonic’ by creating a unique G&T.
The newly opened Red Tail bar by Zouk Singapore took the Singapore title of Best G&T, with the winning entry Lexis Tan’s ‘Float Like a Butterfly’ rendition featuring a violet appearance and hints of Asian and floral flavours, made with Bombay Sapphire, East Imperial Burma Tonic, butterfly blue pea flower infused gin, cinnamon syrup, fresh lemon juice and topped with a layer of citrus foam. In the finale, Tan battled it out against the three winners from Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Phnom Penh for the honour of Asia’s best G&T. Tan said, “Gin is one of my favourites and the most versatile spirit to experiment with, and I really enjoyed the creative process of developing this Gin & Tonic for Gin Jubilee.” Her winning cocktail will be available at Red Tail for S$16.
The 2017 Jubilee dates have been announced, with the first-ever Bangkok jubilee running from January 31-February 4.
