The Australian Gin Distillers Association has announced entries are now open for the Australian Gin Cocktail Cup.
Open to NSW bartenders, the competition requires applicants to craft a bespoke Australian Craft Gin cocktail, mixed with a choice of Premium Craft Mixers provided by lead sponsor The Artisan Drinks Company.
The cocktail can have a maximum of six ingredients, from tinctures, shrubs, Vermouths, Liqueurs, native botanicals, Artisan tonic waters and an Australian Gin as the only spirit. It is compulsory to include an Australian botanical either in the gin itself or as a separate element. Here are some suggestions; fresh cherries, bush lime, river mint, rose petals, elderflower, cinnamon myrtle or peppermint gum leaf as well as an Artisan’ flavoured or unflavoured’ tonic water.
On this years judging panel will be, Jason Crawley (industry legend and owner of bar consultancy service The Drink Cabinet), Andy Penny (The Dolphin Hotel, Surry Hills) and Giacomo Franceschi winners of last years Australian Gin Cup competition.
To enter, bartenders must submit their recipe and a short video of them making the cocktail to the Australian Gin Awards page by Monday 30th September 2019.
The 2018 Australian Gin Cocktail Cup Champion will be announced on Monday 14th October 2019 at Sydney’s The Barber Shop. They will win a two night weekend at the luxurious Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley Resort in the Blue Mountains. The prize includes ‘fully inclusive’ food and beverage, accommodation with private pool, activities and car hire.
