The Australian Gin Distillers Association has today announced entries are now open for the inaugural Australian Gin Cocktail Cup.
The competition has been created as part of the Australian Gin Awards and the consumer festival, Gin Palooza, to be held in Sydney in March 2019.
Open to NSW bartenders, the competition requires applicants to craft a bespoke Australian gin-based cocktail, using a gin from the distillers that will be exhibiting at Gin Palooza. The cocktail can have a maximum of six ingredients, and it is compulsory to include an Australian botanical either in the gin itself or as a separate element.
To enter, bartenders must submit their recipe and a short video of them making the cocktail to the Australian Gin Awards page by Monday 5th November 2018.
Mikey Enright, leading gin enthusiast and owner of The Barber Shop, will be this year’s chairman of judges. Joining him to make up the expert panel will be Harriet Leigh (Archie Rose’s Head of Hospitality), Jason Crawley (industry legend and owner of bar consultancy service The Drink Cabinet) and Andy Penny (co-owner and operator of Stanley’s Bar, Darlinghurst).
The 2018 Australian Gin Cocktail Cup Champion will be announced at the Trophy Presentation Dinner for the Australian Gin Awards on the 7th March 2019. They will win an all expenses paid trip for two to Tasmania for three days, where they’ll meet local distillers, including the renowned Bill Lark.
