Can’t get to Germany for Oktoberfest? Don’t despair as Sydney is putting on its own slice of beer heaven. Inner city Sydney precinct The Rocks is set to host two beer festivals over one weekend this October; The Australian Beer Festival (14-16 October) and the Guinness & Oyster Festival (16 October).
The Australian Beer Festival will be held at The Australian Heritage Hotel, one of the oldest pubs in the country, having opened in 1824. The hotel offers 25 rotating Australian beers on tap and more than 100 bottled Australian craft beers. The festival will showcase more than 34 different Australian breweries along with blind tastings, sessions to meet the brewers behind the beer, gourmet food stalls, and live entertainment.
The Mercantile, Australia’s oldest Irish pub will host the Guinness & Oyster Festival, teaming up with Sydney Cove Oyster Bar’s Head Chef Rhys Ward to offer festival goers stalls of delicious oysters and seafood, along with a real taste of the Emerald Isle, complete with Irish musicians and dancers.
Tickets for the 12th Annual Australian Beer Festival are under 40 bucks, and each ticket comes with 10 beers tasting coupons and a cup. The Guinness and Oyster Festival is a family friendly event and entry is free of charge.
