Amsterdam Announced as Official Host City of BACARDÍ Legacy Global Final 2019

BACARDÍ Rum will host next year’s global final of the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition in Europe’s nightlife capital, Amsterdam.

The announcement was made last night at BACARDÍ’s International Daiquiri Day party, held at Preservation Hall in New Orleans during Tales of the Cocktail week.

The city is the home of current BACARDÍ Legacy global champion Erik van Beek and will play host to the largest number of finalists the competition has ever had, with 42 bartenders representing 48 countries next May.

Erik van Beek (centre) celebrates his win this year with Grand Final judges (L-R):
Alex Kratena, founder of P(OUR) and former Head Bartender of London’s Artesian, Ivy Mix, co-owner and Head Bartender of Brooklyn Bar Leyenda; Ran Van Ongevalle, who won the competition last year and Maestro de Ron BACARDÍ José Sanchez Gavito.

Now in its 11th year, the competition will be adding to its list of optional key ingredients BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro, the brand’s new release premium rum.

When asked about the announcement at the International Daiquiri Day celebrations Dickie Cullimore, global ambassador for BACARDÍ rum said, “We can’t wait to bring the BACARDÍ Legacy to Amsterdam next year. It is a perfect opportunity to celebrate and showcase a city that has a well-established reputation as a destination for nightlife, but is now fast becoming one of Europe’s shining stars for cocktail culture and bartending.”

“I am particularly looking forward to seeing how our entrants this year will use the new BACARDÍ Añejo Cuatro rum, which is aged under the Caribbean sun and brings a subtle new flavor profile to our portfolio for Legacy,” he said. “I’m sure it will bring forth some interesting and delicious new ‘Legacy’ drinks next year.”
