The 88: A Slice of the America’s Yesteryear in the Heart of Bangkok

Thailand’s newest venue, The 88, Surawong, is an ode to the legacy of the great American bartender.

Through offering historically accurate recipes and recreations of both favourite classics and those long forgotten, the venue harks back to the style and service of America’s bars of yesteryear.

Bringing this concept into the 21st century, the menu here focuses on premium spirits and paying homage to the unique flavours of Thailand.

Like any good American style cocktail bar, the vibe is easy and relaxed, with classic rock & roll setting the tone. As well as an array of delicious cocktails, the bar offers food ranging from small bites and deli sandwiches to dry aged flank steak and a baked mac n cheese. There is also a small craft beer menu that is constantly being updated.

The 88, Surawong will be expanding in spring to include a second floor bar space. The upstairs bar will be more cocktail focused, with a menu of original and unexpected creations. To compliment this offering, the drinks will be served in antique glassware, the lighting will be dim and the music will be a tad more on the eccentric side. In order to keep the space intimate, the level will only accommodate 22 people across an assortment of grouped leather sofas and armchairs.

With two such unique concepts in one venue, there’s sure to be something for everyone.
