42BELOW Announce Their Sustainable Cocktail Showcase Winners

42BELOW’s Sustainable Cocktail Showcase winners have been announced! Australian bartender’s Tioni Naslund (Flaggerdoot) and Honni Cox (Hades Hula House) will be travelling with Kiwi winners, Juleon Green (Bedford Soda and Liquor) and Alex Vowles (Hawthorn Lounge) to Bali on an eco-trip as their prize.

The winners will meet with Gringgo Trash-tech and be taken on a ‘Tour-de-trash’, where they’ll learn about saving the ocean from plastic pollutants, recycling and sorting plants. They will also train local Bali bartenders how to run a sustainable cocktail programme.

The showcase was judged by a panel of professional vodka lovers on the applicants level of sustainability and creativity in their original cocktails. While over 4,000 votes from the public counted towards the popularity.

Kane Stanford, Head Judge and Global Brand Manager of 42BELOW, said “There were some amazing drinks for us to sift through. No straws is easy, but just the beginning, so it was great to see such innovation from our industry leaders.”

Honni’s cocktail, ‘One-in-a-Melon’ came fourth in the voting and was also one of the judges favourites. Her cocktail was a zero waste (right down to the glassware) take on the popular bubble tea. Whereas Tioni’s cocktail was applauded on his hyper-local foraging strategy, where he used leftover waste from his restaurant and bar.
