With the current gin renaissance taking place in Singapore, it was a no-brainer for gin lovers Andy Hodgson, Charlie van Eeden, Chris Box and Tim Whitefield to create their very own gin.
Like all good ideas, Tanglin was established over cocktails, and the co-founders teamed up to bring their dream to life. Tanglin is the first gin to be distilled in The Lion City and combines botanicals founded in the oldest of recipes, with new flavours to represent the city truly.
Tanglin gin evokes botanicals that would have passed through Singapore on the spice route to London to make gin many years ago. Combining traditional juniper with more modern spices and botanicals, Tanglin launched with its first batch of Tanglin Orchid Gin mid this year.
Building on traditional herbaceous gin botanicals, Tanglin Orchid Gin is also distilled with green unripe mango, two forms of Orchid, whole vanilla beans and organic oranges. “We wanted to create something that was complex, yet balanced and harmonious,” says Founder and Brand Director Charlie van Eeden. “We’re excited to celebrate Singapore with this unique gin, and proud to release the first gin distilled here.”
“I have very fond memories of my first few weeks in Singapore, and drew inspiration from those memories when I set out to create our first gin,” says Tim Whitefield, Founder and Head Distiller. “Very quickly in the experimentation and research, I settled on orchid, a unique new botanical to use in gin.”
Tanglin is located in a ‘Food Factory’ building un Mandai; however, the dream is eventually opening a distillery as a destination. As the brand continues to grow, the team is experimenting with new flavours and botanicals for future batches with Mandarin Chili slated to launch later this year.
