Drinks World Australia hosted its annual T25 event last night, celebrating the Top 25 bartenders across the country as voted by the industry.
For the first year since the celebration began in 2015, the Top 25 were asked to vote amongst themselves for the bartender they thought best showcased expert knowledge, technique and quality service behind the bar.
Daniel Gregory, from Ettie’s in Hobart, was awarded Bartender’s Bartender on the night.
“Dan was voted by his fellow T25 bartender peers as their top bartender choice and proved that his dedication and passion for the craft of bartending is recognised throughout the industry,” said Drinks World’s Drinks Curator and T25 Chairman of Judges, Benjamin Davidson.
In recognition of the industry’s high esteem, Daniel took home a cocktail kit, provided by sponsor barGEEK, and will be flown to next year’s Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.
An awards ceremony, not a competition, the T25 bartenders are chosen through three rounds of voting by industry. In the first stage, 50 industry experts vote for who they consider to be the nation’s leading bartenders. This year close to 1,000 nominations were submitted, resulting in a 200-plus strong list of bartenders. The list is then shortlisted to a Top 100 based on those that received the most votes. The Top 100 are then invited to vote among themselves to determine the Top 25.
The T25 are then flown to Sydney for an awards presentation and party, where the industry gathers together for a night of spectacular drinks as whipped up by the top bartenders in the country.
“Overall, it was an amazing night that saw one of Australia’s most humble yet celebrated bartenders be awarded Top Bartender for 2018,” said Benjamin.
