Aussie Entries for BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition 2018/19 are Now Open!

The big kahuna of cocktail competitions is back for 2018/19.

It’s time to get mixing, as Australian entries for the BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition are now officially open.

Now in its sixth year of competition, the brief remains as straightforward, yet ambitious as ever – to create a cocktail that will stand the test of time and become the ultimate modern classic. Just as Don Facundo Bacardi Masso’s legacy lives on in the daiquiri and mojito, as well as his world famous rum, bartenders must create a serve that will carve out a place for them in mixology history.

As always the stakes are high, with the Australian winner awarded the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the BACARDÍ Legacy Global Final, held in Amsterdam in 2019.

To get there, one bartender will succeed through four rounds of intense competition. From the anticipated hundreds of initial entries, a Top 30 will be selected. These finalists will then be required to submit a video entry of themselves presenting their bespoke BACARDÍ Legacy cocktail in their bar. The videos will be assessed together with a taste test of the Top 30 cocktails to narrow it down to a Top 8 or ‘Ocho’.

The ‘Ocho’ will then be flown to Brisbane to compete in the semi-finals before a judging panel of industry experts. The three that come out on top will then be named the Most Promising for 2018/19.

However this year, there’s a twist… In addition to the Three Most Promising, the winner of Bartender Magazine’s coveted Bartender of the Year competition will be offered a wild card entry to become the Fourth Most Promising.

These Four Most Promising bartenders will be mentored by dedicated BACARDÍ brand ambassadors and afforded a budget of $1,000, plus complimentary BACARDÍ rum products, to promote their cocktails. During this promotional period, BACARDÍ will assist the bartenders through financial and marketing support.

Finally, the Australian Grand Final will be held in Sydney in February 2019, where the 2018/19 BACARDÍ Legacy Australian Cocktail Competition winner will be crowned.

Bartenders can enter via www.bacardilegacy.com or email bmalegacy@bacardi.com with any questions.

Unsure where to start when crafting your entry? BACARDÍ brand ambassadors and team members will be hosting ‘How to Win Legacy’ masterclassess in all major cities ahead of entries closing on Monday 1st October 2018, Midnight AEST.
