Merivale Group’s Tim Perlstone has taken out the 2018 Australian Ruinart Sommeliers Challenge.
The challenge, run by Champagne Ruinart in collaboration with Sommeliers Australia, saw 26 competitors from around the country come together to compete at the Sommeliers Challenge day on the 19th March.
The finalists were required to blind taste test four wines before Ruinart winemaker, Caroline Fiot. They were assessed on their detailing of the aromatics in the selection of white wines, with Tim Perlstone coming out on top.
He is followed by runners-up Remi Craquelin of Ike-Jime and Patrock Burgun of Barangaroo House.
Tim’s grand prize consists of an all-expenses paid trip to Champagne to visit the Maison Ruinart along with his fellow Sommeliers Challenge winners from across the globe.
In speaking of the competition, Ruinart winemaker Caroline Fiot said: “I’m very impressed by the talent of the Australian sommeliers who participated in the Sommeliers Challenge and am excited to be supporting the development of this community together with Sommeliers Australia.”
