Tasmanian distillery Sullivans Cove has taken out the coveted title of World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt at the prestigious 2018 World Whiskies Awards.
This is the second time the distillery has been honoured with an accolade of this calibre, with it winning for World’s Best Single Malt Whisky in 2014. At the time, this placed Sullivans Cove on the map as the first ever distillery outside of Japan or Scotland to be awarded this title.
This year’s World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt was awarded to Sullivans Cove American Oak – cask number HH0351. This 16-Year-Old expression was matured in an American Oak ex-bourbon barrel and produced only 136 bottles.
As well as this, Sullivans Cove was recognised as Australia’s Best Single Malt Whisky for its Double Cask DC087, 40% ABV at the same awards.
The oldest whisky distillery in Tasmania, Sullivans Cove makes its whiskies from 100% Tasmanian malted barley and Tasmanian mountain water. The whiskies are double distilled in a locally built pot still and matured in full size casks for a number of years.
