Internationally acclaimed chef Luke Mangan is opening his first Luke’s Kitchen in Waterloo, Sydney on Thursday 15th February.
Occupying the former space of Luke’s NYC themed wine bar, MOJO by Luke Mangan, the new restaurant and bar is hoping to become a go-to spot for the local community.
“It’s unpretentious, it’s comfortable, and it’s a place where guests can swing down for a glass of wine and oysters, or the works. We’re here for everyone,” says Mangan.
The menu reflects this humble ethos, focusing on light snacks and share plates inspired by modern Australian cuisine. There will also be a few twists on Mangan classics thrown in there for good measure.
The daily specials list will include Aussie favourites, such as whole fish and a hearty roast for two, carved especially at the table.
Heading up the kitchen is chef Mathew Leighton, a Sydney local trained in Luke’s other establishments across the Asia-Pacific, including Glass Brasserie, Salt Tapas & Bar, Salt Grill & Sky Bar, Luke’s and Chicken Confidential.
On the drinks front, Mangan group mixologist Karl Higgins has crafted a list that utilises the extensive back bar of top-shelf spirits and offers a range of wines by the glass alongside bottlings. Signature cocktails include ‘The Australia by Luke Mangan’ – composed of gin, Cointreau, Hennessy, lime juice, Luke Mangan syrup ((lemongrass, ginger, kaffir lime), cranberry juice and lime zest; and ‘The Dank’ –
Made from cachaça, apple liqueur, pineapple juice, agave, fresh pineapple and coriander root.
To complement the vibe of the new venue, the space has seen a total re-design. A modern, chic palette of earthy green and blush pink is accompanied by pedant light fittings and retro finishes, such as a beaded curtain and floral screen.
Guests are invited to take a seat at one of the diverse seating options, including a window benchtop that overlooks the scenic Danks Street, the spacious wooden tables or the bar.
