Adelaide Hills winemaker, Shaw + Smith, is launching its inaugural Asian scholarships, open to applicants in Hong Kong and Singapore.
The scholarship winners will be invited to Shaw + Smith’s winery to experience the 2019 harvest. This will include immersion in the works of the vineyard and detailed regional and varietal tastings. From there, they will be flown to Tasmania to visit the Tolpuddle Vineyard in the Coal River Valley.
Recipients will receive return airfares to Australia, five nights accommodation in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, two nights accommodation in Hobart, Tasmania and all meals provided.
Established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw, Shaw + Smith focuses on producing medium-bodied expressions of the varieties that suit the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills.
The winery team’s clear focus on vineyard sustainability, vine and soil health and low yields, aims to produce the very best crop possible. This includes their continued dedication to handpicking, fermenting, aging and bottling their wines on site at the Balhannah vineyard.
Since the first vintage in 1990, Shaw + Smith has created a strong team winemaking professionals. It is this team that will instill invaluable lessons on the art of wine production to the deserving scholarship winners.
Applications are now open to anyone in Hong Kong or Singapore working in the wine trade, in either hospitality or retail. To apply, interested parties must send an updated CV, along with no more than 500 words on why you would like to be selected as a Shaw + Smith Scholar, including how you feel the experience would benefit your career in wine.
