Vanguard Luxury Brands has announced the release of Death’s Door Gin on to the Australian market.
The acclaimed gin is known for its soft and versatile taste profile, afforded by the smooth mix of the three core botanicals – a combination of juniper berries, including wild berries from Washington Island (juniperus virginiana), coriander and fennel seeds.
These ingredients work together with the base of hard, red winter wheat, corn and malted barley to create a London dry style gin, complex in flavour but without any bitterness. This results in a gin that is strong enough to come through in a classic cocktail, but also subtle enough to be enjoyed on the rocks or as a dry martini.
On the palate, the up front taste is of juniper berry, followed by spicy, citrusy notes hitting the mid-palate from the coriander seeds and a soft, cooling finish provided by the fennel.
Death’s Door was devised as a economic development project in 2005 to offer families on Washington Island a sustainable future through agriculture. Ellison, in conjunction with the families, promotes the growth and harvest of organic hard, red winter wheat and wild juniper berries. This project has grown from just five acres to the farming of 1,200 acres.
The name, Death’s Door, is in reference to the tumultuous stretch of the Great Lakes, separating Washington Island from the Door County peninsula in northern Wisconsin. Since records began, 350 ships have sunk in the passage and many believe the name of the waterway comes from French voyageur’s tales of Native American spirits haunting the waters.
Death’s Door Gin is now available through Vanguard Luxury Brands and can be ordered by contacting Andy Kerrsmith at email@example.com
