The search for the winner of the Woodford Reserve 2017 Australian Cocktail Challenge concluded this week and now you can see all of the winning recipes right here.

Congratulations to Matt Linklater from Black Pearl in Melbourne (VIC) who came in first place in the national finals held at Marble Bar, Sydney with his Natural Order cocktail.

As the winner, Matt received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York, US for next year to take part in The Woodford Reserve Manhattan Experience Finals.

Matt’s cocktail can be seen below with all of the other finalists’ recipes.

In second place was Simon Hopkins from Surly’s, Sydney (NSW) with his Jaffa Manhattan cocktail and Vini Wang from Hains & Co., Adelaide (SA) who came in third place with his cocktail Appellation.

To make it through to the national final, competitors also had to win in their state finals. Well done to James Connolly from Long Chim Perth (WA) and Josh O’Brien from The Bowery, Brisbane (QLD) for making it all the way to the nationals.

About the Cocktail Challenge

Now in its third year, the competition sets out to find bartenders who are as passionate about bourbon as they are classic cocktails with each challenged to come up with an original cocktail recipe using Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye as well as their own interpretation of an Old Fashioned.

The competition has grown in popularity since launching in 2015 with a record 155 bartenders taking part this year. The inaugural challenge was won by Thalita Alves; followed by Alex Boon in 2016.
