BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition has revealed the Top 30 bartenders for Australia’s 2017/18 competition.
Now in its fifth year, the competition saw a record amount of quality entries. BACARDÍ brand ambassadors, Loy Catada, Andy Wren and Peter Hollands had their work cut out for them, choosing the thirty best cocktail recipes without knowing which bartender was the creator.
Catada said of the tight selection process, “The Top 30 ultimately came down to well thought-out recipes and an obvious passion behind the drinks; we could certainly have the next Global Legacy cocktail come out of Australia.”
This Top 30 must now submit a video of themselves serving their original Legacy cocktail in their bars. The video entry will then be judged together with a taste test of the cocktails by the brand ambassadors, the results of which will see the competitors narrowed down to a Top 8.
The Top 30 Australian bartenders advancing to this next stage of the competition are as follows:
Cheng I Chang
Kennedy CK Chung
The Top 8, or ‘Ocho’, selected from this group will then be invited to Melbourne to present their original Legacy cocktails and their take on the BACARDÍ Daiquiri before a judging panel of industry professionals.
From here, the Top 3 will be chosen to compete in the Australian Grand Final in the hopes of taking home the title of the Australian BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition winner.
The winner will be flown to Mexico City, Mexico next year to battle it out with the other national finalists for the crown of BACARDÍ Legacy’s global winner.
