Hippocampus Metropolitan Distillery has merged with Boatrocker Brewing, the craft beer and spirits products will now take on the new title Boatrocker “Brewers & Distillers”.
The products will remain under their respective brands of Hippocampus and Boatrocker, with only the company name changed to reflect the merger.
The two teams are joining forces under the one roof, meaning Hippocampus will move west to east. The Hippocampus Head Distiller, Alex Poulsen, will relocate the copper still and move from Perth to Melbourne and will work under Matt Houghton and the Boatrocker team. Alex has a background in craft brewing, honing his skills at Little Creatures, and in Norway where he was both brewing and distilling.
“I am really looking forward to having Alex on our team bringing his knowledge of craft beer and craft spirits. Once we settle production of what we are both doing, we have plenty of ideas for collaboration between kettle and still”, said Boatrocker founder Matt Houghton.
Boatrocker also has one of Australia’s leading barrel-aged beer programs and unique styles. Adding a distillery in-house provides an exciting platform to showcase spirits and innovation.
The merger will see sales and marketing for both the beer and spirits range managed by the Boatrocker team nationally from the Braeside, Victoria base.
