Simon McGoram appointed as Diageo national whisky ambassador

Simon McGoram has taken on the role of Diageo’s National Whisky Ambassador, replacing Sean Baxter. With over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, both nationally and abroad, McGoram is one of the most respected industry names.

Previous roles include editor of Australian Bartender, drinks writer for Fairfax’s nationally syndicated Executive Style website, and McGoram has gone on to open three venues, most notably the highly successful Bondi beachside bar, Neighbourhood.

McGoram was also a former Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador for NSW, and since opening his own venues, has kept his hand in trainings, tastings and writing whilst operating. With a passion for all things whisk(e)y, McGoram got his passion after visiting a little town in the Scottish Western Highlands called Oban, where he was first introduced to the liquid.

On the new role, McGoram said, “I’m incredibly excited to take on this new role and the challenges it represents. It’s a dream job really – to be able to share my passion for all things whisky to promote Diageo’s extensive Scotch portfolio – and get paid for it! I’m pinching myself”.

Marketing Manager for Scotch as Diageo, Jonathan Morgan said, “We are extremely excited to have Simon on board as our new Whisky Ambassador given his extensive experience. We are very confident that he will help us capitalise on the growth we are seeing in Scotch and the fantastic legacy that Sean leaves as a globally renowned ambassador for Diageo.”
