Competitors from Bangkok and Chiang Mai have battled it out for a spot in the coveted top four positions for Diplomático World Tournament’s Thailand final. This year marks the international cocktail competition’s third edition, organised by Diplomático Rum and its distributors. Bartenders from over 40 countries are participating in the search for the best bartender, based on creativity, expertise and bar skills, as well as charisma, elegance and passion.
This round, held at Havana Social Club, Bangkok, proved fiercely competitive, with bartenders from Rabbit Hole, Morimoto, Vesper, il Fumo, CE LA VI, Marriott Bangkok, Anantara Chiang Mai, Anantara Bangkok and Havana Social in the mix.
Judging the finals was a stellar rum-expert cast, including Milk Pailin, Diplomático World Tournament Thailand 2015 winner, Megan Bardoe,‘People’s Choice’ 2015 Diplomático World Tournament USA winner, and Sebastian de la Cruz, better known as “Mr. Rum Guy” amongst bartender peers in Bangkok.
This round’s winners were as follows:
- Attapon De-silva representing Q&A Bar
- Kitibordee Chortubtim representing Backstage Cocktail Bar
- Suchada Sopajaree representing The Owl Society Whiskey Saloon
- Noppasate Hirunwathit representing Revolucion Cocktail Bangkok
The finalists will now go on to compete for a chance to represent Thailand in the Continental Semi Finals in Venezuela, the home of Diplomático rum. Success there will lead to a place in the World Final to be held in London, England.
The overall winner of the Diplomático World Tournament will be awarded the prestigious title of “Diplomático’s World Best Bartender” and receive $10,000 USD in prize money. Second place will receive $5,000 USD, and third $2,500 USD.
