Representing the next chapter of the family’s legacy, Master’s Keep is Eddie Russell’s debut release as Master Distiller, taking over the reins from father Jimmy.
Marking a significant milestone in the brand’s history, this expression has been curated from 17-year old straight bourbon whiskey from the distillery in Kentucky.
Wild Turkey had a surplus of Bourbon and no warehouse space left, so Eddie reached out to another distiller who offered room in his stone warehouse. Eddie knew that this would age the Bourbon differently than the traditional wooden warehouses at Wild Turkey. Eddie bit the bullet and so the barrels spent several years in stone warehouses before making the journey back to Wild Turkey’s wooden ones. After 17 years and 200 miles, Eddie felt these barrels had reached their peak flavour. And this is how the Masters’ Keep was born.
‘Master’s Keep is the result of a lot of experimentation, patience and faith’ said Eddie Russell. ‘ The sweet spot for Bourbon ageing is usually between 8 – 12 years because older Bourbon’s tend to become too woody or spicy from sitting too long in the barrel. What I was able to do with Master’s Keep was retain the Bourbon’s rich caramel and vanilla flavours by ageing the barrels in both stone and wood warehouses, sampling from them every few months to decide their next move’.
The result is delicate, yet a distinct Wild Turkey bourbon, with a smooth and silky introduction that transforms into a caramel, vanilla sweetness, and finishes with a satisfying burst of spiciness and oak.
The liquid is delivered in a unique bottle that reflects the craftsmanship and dedication that went into the Bourbon itself. The Master’s Keep bottle is made of the highest quality crystalline glass and embossed on the bottle is the iconic image of the wild turkey.
The latest limited edition from the iconic Bourbon brand will be available island (Singapore) wide in small quantities starting in January 2016.
